You Find What You’re Looking For

Observations are full of potential to change our perspective and our life as well. Recently I’ve observed a pattern of thinking that affects most aspects of daily life. I’ve realized that whatever you are looking for in life you usually find it. If you are looking for a disagreement, you get one. If you are looking for rejection, it comes knocking at your door. If you are looking an offense, offense comes, often en masse.
As this epiphany came into clarity I sensed the Holy Spirit challenge my perspective. “What if you looked for acceptance? What if you looked for celebration and agreement? What if your expectations changed and you expected good to emerge out of every encounter and every experience? What would life look like then?” Wow! Talk about a game changer!
Now, I am not a negative person by any stretch of the imagination. However, typically negative expectations are imperceptible until God unveils another layer of His goodness in you. Then it is a process to align a few things in our thinking to synchronize with the fresh perspective.
I want to encourage us to rethink our day-to-day expectations for life in relationships and work. Lets ask the Holy Spirit to upgrade our mindsets to see the world around us from His perspective. Let’s change what we think and how we talk about the life we live. Let’s expect wonder and awe to fill our daily lives even in the midst of the mundane, ordinary, and everyday. Let’s allow the river of God’s life and goodness to splash on all those around us and raise the level of celebration everywhere we go.
I love how Paul states this in 2 Corinthians 2:14, when he states: “But thanks be to God, who ALWAYS leads us in triumphal procession in Christ, and through us spreads EVERYWHERE the fragrance of the knowledge of him.” Did you catch that? He always leads us everywhere in triumph! That is good news! So, let’s trust God that we are always living in victory and allow that victory to shape our perspective, expectations, and declarations about life and people. This has the power to change everything and is incredibly good news!
